Who We Are

The Willamette Pedestrian Coalition (WPC) is a 501(c)3 private non-profit community-based membership organization in the greater Portland metro area.  We are dedicated to promoting walking and making the conditions for walking safe and attractive.

Until recently WPC was a volunteer organization. In September 2007 we hired a Director, this will enable us to increase our profile and activities and further pedestrian related projects. Our activities are guided by the Board of Directors, listed here.  We work with many other organizations, including the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, to enhance our effectiveness in advocating for pedestrians.

WPC was established in 1991 to provide an organized voice for pedestrians, advocate for pedestrian rights and safety, and educate people about the benefits of walking. Since then, we have worked on legislation to improve the pedestrian environment, helped to establish a national pedestrian advocacy group, and raised awareness of pedestrian issues.  Read more about our history here.

Membership is open at a variety of levels to individuals and organizations who are interested in supporting pedestrian issues. To learn more, go to our 'Get Involved' page.
